Jean at studio 56
Jean was born in Cardiff and after school she qualified as an Occupational Therapist and spent 30 years working with people living with trauma and illness, within many different specialties and places, including in Jamaica. She has always participated in the arts and creative therapies and promised herself that one day she would go to Art College to develop her own skills and language as an artist. In 2005 she gained a fine art degree at Swansea Institute. She has worked at the Grand Pavilion in Porthcawl as Visual arts co-ordinator arranging exhibitions ,and classes and instigated the ArtTalk programme. For 10 years she was the tutor at Trinity art group, teaching adults of all abilities, and arranging exhibitions at many locations and galleries. Jean has experience of running workshops for a wide variety of groups and purposes, and with people of all ages.
In 2015 Jean moved to Ffairfach and has a large studio in a barn at Haulwen Lodge. She works in many media; drawing, painting, collage and print-making, sometimes all in the same image. She likes to take a theme and explore it through different materials, styles and approaches. The results are themed series of work. Her subjects range from landscape, to portraiture and abstraction. Nature and people are her inspiration. Jean has exhibited work in group and solo exhibitions in South Wales, has been a member of Silures Gallery in Porthcawl ,and is now involved with the Tywi Valley artists and participates in their Open Studios and Arts Trail events. She is available to talk to groups, run workshops and undertake commissions, including work for organisations and public places.
